Magic Number Machine

Lifehacker just posted a quick entry regarding Magic Number Machine.  I’ve been using this tool since I got my Mac – it’s simply amazing.  Magic Number Machine is an extremely powerful graphic calculator.  It does everything but sit up and beg.  The tool has come in very handy when I’m double-checking the kid’s homework — it’s been a long time since Algebra for me.  This takes all the grunt work out of the problems.

It’s Mac only and can be found here.

Carrotmob – Organizing Consumers for Socially Beneficial Choices

Carrotmob – A real quick note on a fantastic organization with a pretty innovated idea on how to improve the world we live in.  I StumbleUpon a video created by the organizers of Carrotmob this morning and I thought it was just fantastic.  In a nutshell, Carrotmob organizes consumers so that coporations will have a financial incentive to improve the way the do business.  This is a very powerful concept as the incentive to do good is coming directly from the consumers and not some faceless tax law or corporate accountant.

Click on the link and watch the videos of their efforts.

Font Site – dafont.com

da font Just a quick post…

I’ve been creating some new print and online projects and I found an absolutely great site for fonts:  http://www.dafont.com/

The site has a huge collection of donation-ware, free, and free for personal use fonts.  Once you set a category of the type of fonts you would like to see, you have the option of typing in custom text so that the site will preview the text in the offered fonts.  Very useful when you need to help a client research a font.

All in all – a great site!

Setting Adium Away Status with Quicksliver

If you’ve read this blog before, you know that I love the Quicksliver application.   To date, the existing bundled plugins and readily available plugiQuickSilverns have met my needs.  Although lately, I’ve notice that I really would have like to have a shortcut to set my Adium online status to Away.  After a little bit of Goggle-ing I found a number of solutions.  However, none seem too clean as you needed to use an outdated plugin (if you can find it) or write some script.  I did find a useful blog entry that allowed me tackle this problem a little differently.

ARRGH! iPhone & iCal Server

I hate technology.  I really do.  Why can’t things just work?  Here is my latest bug: My iPhone will not allow me to anything other than read my iCal  server calendar.  After the jump you can read about how I got some delegated calendars to work and what the current issues are with iCal Server.
