Navigon 5100 Review

(I found this in my draft folder and I figure I’d post it as is. I do have some follow up comments since using the device since Xmas, but I’ll do that in another article.)

product_5100_angled I just recently bought my oldest a new car for Christmas (yeah, my kids are spoiled.) One of the features that I didn’t get in the car is a navigation system. Automobile manufacturers need to get a clue on just how much someone is willing to spend on a navigation system. I have not seen a system for under $1600 for any new car. $1600!! That’s three times the amount I spent on my first car!

Ecto Beta 3 – MS Live Writer Replacement?

I read an interesting review of Ecto in my daily meanderings through the blogsphere yesterdaecto logoy.   Just like the article’s author, I’m constantly on the look out for a MS Live Writer replacement for the Mac.  Although my current setup works – there is something evil, dirty, shameful about firing up a whole VM running Vista JUST to use a blog editor.  (Ye Gods! why is MS Live Writer so damn good?!).

Starting My Cocoa Education

Since I’ve switched to the Mac as my main work machine, I’ve been keenly interested in developing oXcode iconn  that platform.  There have been a couple of tools I really want to build but I have no idea how to even start programming on this platform.  I figure that I might as well blog about my learning experience as well.

Evernote Mac 1.1 – The Unofficial Apple Weblog (TUAW)

Evernote logo

Woohoo! Found out from one of my favorite stops, TUAX.com, Evernote just went to  1.1 beta and includes a number of new features.

Version 1.1.0 Beta (05/11/2008) build 29438:

  • PDF support. Please update to the latest version of Evernote on all of your Macs before creating notes with PDFs.
  • There are now three view styles: List, Mixed and Thumbnail. All views now include a note editor pane.
  • Spotlight integration.
  • Fixed a bug which prevented content from being dragged directly into an open note.
  • Thumbnail rendering improvements and fixes.

I’ve just downloaded the program now.  I really like the Spotlight integration feature – that could prove very useful.
