Mac Goodness: Spaces – Every Space option

AppleLogoSM.jpgThis is the second article in my Mac Goodness category. As I mentioned in my last article, these articles are to capture really interestingly cool things/features that I’ve learned about the Mac or OS X. Today’s article is on a configuration settings on the Spaces feature in OS X.

I’ve been using OS X’s Spaces feature since I first got the OS. I find it indispensable in my day to day work. For the complete Mac beginner out there, Spaces is a desktop virtualization software that comes bundled with OS X.

In any event, I have a dual monitor setup which one would think should give a person ample room to work. However, I find that even with two monitors, one can still run out of screen real estate. Using Spaces, I’ve created 6 different workspaces. I know, seems like over kill to have, in effect, a 12-monitor setup. However, I assure you.. it’s not.

Mac trojan horse discovered in pirated Photoshop | Macworld

Here we go folks – these will start to come fast and furious now that someone has done some of the ground work. Make sure you get your software from known entities and not pirates. Keep in mind that you do still have to approve of any application to be installed on your Mac – so if you install one of these, it’s your own fault. So far these are trojans and not viruses – so the threat to your machine is limited. However, I would think that you’ll want to start protecting your Mac investments now rather than waiting for a real virus to show up.

OpenDNS Finally Configured

Finally got around to spending 5 minutes configuring my home network to use OpenDNS. I figured that it is just one more layer of protection I can give my network. OpenDNS gives you the ability to perform internet filtering and gives you an additional layer of protection from phishing sites for free. It’s simply amazing that just a few years ago we used to pay for some major hardware/software solutions that provided the same level of protection. I know of quite a few companies that are still paying for subscription services for the something they could get for free now.

Windows 7 on VMWare Fusion

I finished downloading and installing Windows 7 this weekend. It didn’t take nearly as long as I thought it would take and I do have to hand it to the guys at Redmond: Good Job! I was able to get the OS installed on VMWare Fusion 2.0.1 with no issues. Other than to play with Windows 7, I did have a purpose to installing the OS — but since installing it I completely don’t need the OS any more other than a play thing on the Mac.
